Absolut Art Bar

Absolut Vodka chose Phil America to create their annual art bar. For the project he chose to cut up numerous luxury brand purses and work together with local traditional Bogaji quilt makers to create an hanging quilt around the bar. The piece was accompanied by a short video of the making of the work.

At the bar itself there was drinks created by the artist in collaboration with Absolut’s mixologists, with each drink being named after a designer. One of the drinks was called the Purple Label, an ode to Ralph Lauren’s luxury line Purple Label. The drink was a mixture of vodka, numerous juices to make the drink itself purple and ice cubes with small, edible cut-out polo logos. Another one was a chocolate drink with cacao around the rim and chocolate vodka called the Coco Chanel, an ode to Chanel’s founder.

The work was shown in Seoul at the Zaha Hadid designed Dongdaemun Design Plaza (동대문디자인플라자), often called DDP, in 2018.
